OUCH!!!!!

For lack of a better word, that is what it feels like working in the Postal Service these last few months since the hiring has slowed and the supposedly mail volume drop.  There are Postmasters that are working longer weeks than ever before and there are bright spots in some areas of the state where goals have been met and still there is no help in sight.  The work load is harder for offices that are working well below the needed clerks to run an office in a healthy way.

Have you had that special call from the Manager of Post Office Operations.  Have you gotten the good news or the bad news of how your office will look in a couple of years.  Will it be upgraded or downgraded.

Have you had the word from your MPOO that you can not hire anymore clerks or a trusted Leave replacement to be there when your not well.

If you’re in any one of these boats or an ocean liner larger than large, then you need to attend the annual Alaska State Convention  that will be held in Anchorage.    The convention will be held at the Westmark hotel in downtown Anchorage.  The dates are March  9, 10 and 11.  These dates are scheduled right after the Fur Rondy and the start of the Iditarod.  So if any one of these events pull you toward Anchorage than you are more than welcome to attend the state convention.

OIC’s, PMLR or associate members and even retirees are invited.  Not a member, no problem, come and make some acquaintances or meet old friends.  Unfortunately there will not be any training for Postmasters this year and travel and hotel will have to be on your dime.

The Postal Service is in hard times right now with balancing finances after a sizable lose this last year.  The rise in fuel prices and the lower volume loss has really taken a toll on the bottom line.  There is no better time to come and hear directly from National Officers along with local officers and state Postal leaders.  Get some great ideas on how to raise your office and fight for the level that you are at now.  AGAIN, There is no better time to ATTEND a state convention.

Next month there will be a registration form in the newsletter to use to sign up along with a phone number to call for a room.
